go BIG or go dig/ shift

from the little expirience i gained, i have realised one important thing about CSIR culture, its either you do your work with your utmost effort, or you dont get paid. it was emphasised several times to us that we have to utilise the 8hours that we get "paid for" or else......

we had a meeting with the current interns yesterday, and it was eye opening and very interesting as they were telling us about their expirience at CSIR and they also told us what it takes to be part of this family and the procedures taken.

they mentioned something that i found very important. the shift from being a university student to be an employee at CSIR. there is a huge shif in behavior, attitude and responsibility. as an employee one has to be accountable for his actions, unlike assignments that students can choose not to do, objectives have to be reached in an organisation.every actions are enclosed by rules and regulation to ensure that objectives are met and that everyoune behaves accordingly to ensure uniformity.

for instance, lunch break is at 13:30 :-(, i usually eat my second lunch at that time.however, we managed to adapt to the CSIR culture and i'v seen some of my class mates attitudes are changing.

  1. Second lunch at 13:30, Tjo you eat my man, you eat. Those interns also made me realise that it takes hard wrok to participate fully in this organisation. Im just glad I joined this project so I can actually see what research is all about. It seems like these people do not sleep and work all night and day. Talk about research, hah, Im just glad we are on the information stream and do not need to be in a chemical laboratory with all those funny smelling substances. All we need is a computer and an internet connection.
